<p>Getting clicks from Google Ads but no enquiries, calls or form submissions is one of the most frustrating situations in paid search — and one of the most misdiagnosed. The campaign looks like it is working (impressions, clicks, spend) but nothing comes through. Most people assume the channel is broken or too expensive. In most cases, it is a specific, fixable problem in one of a handful of places. Based on patterns across Swiss and DACH Google Ads accounts managed between 2020 and 2026, roughly 89% of zero-conversion campaigns have an identifiable, correctable root cause.</p>

<p>This is always the first question to answer, because if tracking is broken, everything else you conclude from the data will be wrong. You might have had conversions all along and simply not seen them. Or you might be feeding bad signals to smart bidding, teaching it to optimise for nothing.</p>
<p>Go to Tools &gt; Conversions in your Google Ads account. Look at the status column. Any conversion action marked as "No recent conversions" or "Inactive" is a red flag. Then verify the tag itself — use Google Tag Assistant in Chrome or the GA4 DebugView to confirm the conversion tag fires correctly when someone submits a form or lands on your thank-you page.</p>

<p>A common pattern: someone sets up a thank-you page redirect that later breaks due to a site update, or a developer changes a form plugin and the old GTM trigger stops matching. The campaign keeps running, keeps spending, and the conversion action shows nothing — not because nothing is happening, but because the measurement is gone.</p>

<h2 id="does-your-landing-page-match-the-ad">Does your landing page match what the ad promised?</h2>
<p>If tracking is clean and conversions are genuinely zero, the landing page is almost always next. Message match is the most underrated conversion lever in Google Ads. When someone clicks an ad that says "Same-day removals Zurich" and lands on your homepage with a generic hero image and a navigation menu, the decision to leave takes about three seconds.</p>
<p>A landing page built for paid traffic needs to do one thing: confirm that the person landed in the right place, and make one action very easy to take. That means the headline should reflect the ad's promise. The form or phone number should be above the fold on mobile. There should be at least one trust signal — a review, a specific result, a real address.</p>
<p>The most common landing page mistakes on Swiss SMB Google Ads accounts:</p>

<h2 id="are-your-keywords-the-right-intent">Are your keywords attracting people who actually want to buy?</h2>
<p>Keyword intent mismatch is responsible for around 18% of the zero-conversion cases in DACH accounts. Broad match is usually the culprit. If you are a moving company bidding on "moving" in broad match, Google will show your ads for "moving average Excel formula", "moving meditation", "moving to Canada from Germany" — and you will pay for every click.</p>
<p>The fix is the search terms report, not the keywords tab. Go to Keywords &gt; Search Terms in your Google Ads account and look at what people actually typed before clicking your ad. Sort by cost. Add anything irrelevant as a negative keyword immediately. For new campaigns with limited budgets, phrase match and exact match give you enough control to avoid this problem almost entirely.</p>

If your daily budget produces 5–10 clicks per day and conversions are infrequent, smart bidding has no signal to optimise against.</p>
<p>This creates a slow-burn failure mode: the campaign runs for weeks, generates a handful of conversions at unpredictable intervals, and the bidding algorithm never stabilises. Results look inconsistent because they are — the machine is guessing rather than learning.</p>
<p>The counter-intuitive fix is sometimes to reduce geographic targeting or keyword scope, concentrate the same budget on a smaller, higher-intent set of queries, and let the algorithm accumulate data faster on fewer, better clicks.</p>

<h2 id="what-does-the-search-term-report-say">What does the search term report actually tell you?</h2>
<p>This is the most useful 10 minutes you can spend in an account that is not converting. Sort by cost descending. For every term that spent money without producing a conversion, ask yourself honestly: would a person who typed this be likely to buy from me? If the answer is no, add it as a negative. If the answer is yes, look at what happened after the click — did they land on the right page? Did they spend time there?</p>
<p>Session duration data from GA4 linked to your ad clicks is useful here. If people click, land, and leave in under 10 seconds, the problem is the landing page. If they spend 90 seconds but do not convert, the problem is usually friction in the conversion action — form too long, phone number not prominent, no urgency.</p>

<h2 id="real-example">A real example: clicks with no leads, then fixed</h2>
<p>In my experience working with DACH clients, this pattern comes up regularly. One moving company I worked with — running ads in the Zurich area — was generating consistent clicks at a reasonable CPC but converting at under 0.8% for several months. Their conversion tracking was technically set up, but the GA4 goal was based on a page URL that had changed after a site redesign. The tag was firing, the page no longer existed, so every conversion was silently lost.</p>
<p>Once tracking was fixed and confirmed — by submitting a real test form and watching the conversion appear in Google Ads — the actual conversion rate turned out to be 7.3%. The campaign had been working fine. The measurement had not. After that, we rebuilt the landing page to match the ad copy more precisely and added mobile click-to-call, which added another 2% in phone call conversions. The "broken" campaign had actually been their best-performing channel all along.</p>

<p>Gehe in Google Ads zu Tools &gt; Conversions. Schau dir die Statusspalte an. Jede Conversion-Aktion mit Status "Keine aktuellen Conversions" oder "Inaktiv" ist ein Warnsignal. <p>Ein häufiges Muster: Eine Danke-Seiten-Weiterleitung bricht durch ein Site-Update, oder ein Entwickler ändert ein Formular-Plugin und der alte GTM-Trigger passt nicht mehr. <h2 id="passt-die-landing-page-zur-anzeige">2. Passt die Landing Page zu dem, was die Anzeige verspricht?</h2>
<p>Wenn das Tracking sauber ist und Conversions wirklich null sind, ist die Landing Page fast immer der nächste Schuldige. Message Match ist der am häufigsten unterschätzte Conversion-Hebel bei Google Ads. Wenn jemand auf eine Anzeige mit "Umzug Zürich — heute noch Termin buchen" klickt und auf deiner Startseite mit einem generischen Bild und einem Navigationsmenü landet, dauert die Entscheidung zu gehen etwa drei Sekunden.</p>
<p>Eine Landing Page für Paid Traffic muss eines tun: bestätigen, dass die Person am richtigen Ort ist, und eine Aktion leicht möglich machen. Das bedeutet: Die Headline soll das Versprechen der Anzeige widerspiegeln. Das Formular oder die Telefonnummer muss auf dem Mobiltelefon ohne Scrollen sichtbar sein. Es braucht mindestens ein Vertrauenssignal — eine Bewertung, ein konkretes Ergebnis, eine echte Adresse.</p>

<h2 id="was-zeigt-der-suchbegriffsbericht">5. Was zeigt der Suchbegriffsbericht wirklich?</h2>
<p>Das sind die nützlichsten 10 Minuten, die du in einem Konto ohne Conversions verbringen kannst. Sortiere nach Kosten absteigend. Für jeden Begriff, der Geld ausgegeben hat ohne eine Conversion zu erzeugen, frage dich ehrlich: Würde jemand, der das eingegeben hat, bei mir kaufen wollen? Wenn nein — als Negativkeyword hinzufügen. Wenn ja — was ist nach dem Klick passiert?</p>
<p>Session-Dauer-Daten aus GA4 (verknüpft mit deinen Ad-Klicks) sind hier hilfreich. Wenn Leute klicken, landen und innerhalb von 10 Sekunden wieder weg sind, liegt das Problem bei der Landing Page. Wenn sie 90 Sekunden bleiben aber nicht konvertieren, liegt das Problem meistens bei der Reibung in der Conversion-Aktion — Formular zu lang, Telefonnummer nicht prominent, keine Dringlichkeit.</p>

<h2 id="warum-klicks-nicht-reichen">6. Warum Klicks allein nichts über Kampagnenerfolg aussagen</h2>
<p>In meiner Erfahrung mit DACH-Kunden taucht dieses Muster regelmässig auf. Ein Umzugsunternehmen aus der Region Zürich — Umzugteam.ch, ein Kunde, mit dem ich über mehrere Monate gearbeitet habe — hatte konstante Klicks zu einem vernünftigen CPC, konvertierte aber über längere Zeit mit unter 0,8%. Das Conversion-Tracking war technisch eingerichtet, aber das GA4-Ziel basierte auf einer Seiten-URL, die nach einem Site-Redesign nicht mehr existierte. Der Tag feuerte, die Seite gab es nicht mehr — jede Conversion ging lautlos verloren.</p>
<p>Sobald das Tracking repariert und per Test-Formular bestätigt war, stellte sich die echte Conversion Rate als 7,3% heraus. Die Kampagne hatte die ganze Zeit gut funktioniert. Die Messung nicht. Danach bauten wir die Landing Page so um, dass sie genauer zum Anzeigentext passte, und fügten einen mobilen Click-to-Call hinzu — was weitere 2% durch Anruf-Conversions brachte.</p>

<h2 id="wenn-alles-stimmt-was-dann">7. Was tun, wenn Tracking, Landing Page und Keywords alle stimmen?</h2>
<p>Wenn du alle fünf Punkte oben sauber abgehakt hast und die Zahlen immer noch nicht stimmen, gibt es drei seltenere Ursachen: Die Gebotsstrategie passt nicht zur Conversion-Reife des Kontos (zum Beispiel Target ROAS ohne ausreichende historische Daten). Das Angebot selbst ist nicht wettbewerbsfähig — der Traffic ist real und kaufbereit, aber Preis oder Vertrauen stimmen nicht. Oder die Konkurrenz hat sich verändert und drängt dich aus günstigen Auktionen.</p>
<p>In diesen Fällen hilft ein strukturierter Audit, der Kampagnen, Gebotsstrategien, Qualitätsfaktor und Wettbewerber-Auktionsdaten gemeinsam betrachtet — nicht nur eine einzelne Metrik.</p>
